- Justification by Works
- Biblical basis is in the NT in the letter of James.
- "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead" -James 2:26
- Faith on it's own is usefull
- Doesn't help those in need.
- Even demons believe in good, thus it can't be enough for salvation.
- Faith is expressed via works
- This was seen in Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son for God.
- Also seen in the protection of Joshua's spies by a prostitute in order to assist the Isrealite conquest of Jericho.
- Parable of the sheep and goats
- Many Christians accept the need for works because of Jesus' teaching in this parable.
- Judgement will be based on the individual human's help for or failure to help those in need.
- No mention is made of faith
- The judgement being carried out is universal:
- "Before him will be gathered all nations"
