  • Superior judges can only be removed the Queen following a request by BOTH houses of parliament
    • This allows judges to make decisions against the gov without fear of being dismissed
  • They can't be used for decisions made in cases (Sirros v Moore 1975)
    • Allows judges to perform duties without fear of repercussions
  • Judicial independence is guaranteed- Constitutional Reform Act 2005
    • Lord Chancellor/ other ministers must not influence decisions
  • Must not try a case where they have any interests in issue (Pinochet Case 1998)
    • Judges must be completely impartial when making decisions
