      • continue Kennedys work and extend it
      • declare war on poverty through 'Great Society'
      • planned to improve health of poor and old- providing them with better diet and living conditions
    • Objectives
      • CIVIL RIGHTS ACT 1964- ban discrimination in public places also set up the Equal Opportunity Commission to implant law
      • VOTING ACT 1965- allowed black American the right to vote
      • ALL laws banning mixed-race marriage were removed
      • THE ECONOMY- cut taxes, improve railways and highways and consumers were allowed to return faulty goods
      • MEDICAL CARE ACT 1965- access to health care for all Americans and it was equal
      • ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ACT 1965
      • minimum wage increased
      • schemes set up t help poor in inner cities
    • Opposition
      • Republicans accused him of wasting money
      • Accused of doing too little to tackle problems in the inner citie
      • Escalation of US involvement in war in  Vietnam
