  • Reason for development and growth
    • Founded by His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabupada in New York in 1966
      • Members of ISKON practice bhakti-yoga in their homes and also worship in temples, they prmote Krishna Consciousness thorugh festivals, yoga seminas and the performing arts
        • Due to the influx of devotees, they began to move in with Prabupada, thus leading to the first ISKON temple
    • Philosophically it is based on the divine text of the Bhagavad Gita
      • ISKON is popularly known as the Hare Krishna movement
        • In 1966, they held the first Hare Krishna mahamantra in NY. Thus brought a lot of attention to ISKON and was recognised as the first event founding of ISKON
    • ISKON devotees chant God's name in the form of the maha-mantra
      • Gained devotees due to the drug craze in the 1960's, where some people would be more inclined to discover new opportunities under the influence
        • People may have wanted to find something to distract themsevles from a post-war society after the Vietnam war
        • It was exciting and new, and many people would of been searching for a different faith other than Christianity after/during the war
