- Dances
- Social dances - when everyone joins in.
- Take place at celebrations i.e. fairs and weddings.
- Performance dances - audience watch.
- Either hard shoe or soft shoe dances.
- REELS
- 4/4 time (sometimes 2/4 or 2/2)
- Accents on the first and third beats.
- Tunes are often made up of straight quavers - quite quick.
- Women - soft shoe dance. - leaps. Men - hard shoes.
- 4/4 time (sometimes 2/4 or 2/2)
- JIGS
- Lively and fast.
- Often start on an anacrusis.
- Single, double, light and heavy jigs are in 6/8.
- Most jigs are soft shoe. (Except heavy jig).
- Slip jigs are in 9/8. - Graceful with hops and skips.
- HORNPIPES
- 4/4 time.
- Often have dotted rhythms.
- A bit slower than a reel.
- Hard shoe dance.
- Social dances - when everyone joins in.
