    • Found in walls of intestine, iris, wall of arteries and around arterioles
      • Controls light intensity entering eye
      • Peristalsis- moves food along intestine
      • Controls blood flow
    • Innervated by neurones of the autonomic nervous system
    • Spindle-shaped
      • 500 µm long
      • 5 µm wide
    • Contraction is relatively slow, muscle tires very slowly
    • Contain small bundles of actin and myosin, also a single nucleus
