  • Investigating Cells
    • The Size of Cells
      • Centimetre - 1 x 10^2
      • Millimetre -   1 x 10^3
      • Micrometre - 1 x 10^6
      • Nanometre - 1 x 10^9
    • Using Microscopes to Look at Cells
      • Resolution - the ability to distinguish between two objects / how clear the image is
      • Electron microscope
        • Passes electrons through the specimen rather than light
        • Gives much better resolution
        • Cells can be seen in much finer detail e.g.
          • The structures inside mitochondria can chloroplasts can be studied
          • Ribosomes can be seen and their role in making proteins can be studied
    • Magnification is how many times larger the image is than the real object
      • Magnification = size of object / size of real object
