  • Introduction to the Ethics of War
    • War and conflict have always played a crucial role in human history
      • they shaped destines of nations
        • Religion has always been a major factor
    • war has always been a major dilemma for religious belivers
      • Since ancient times, man always thought their God or God's to protect them at times of conflict
    • The Bible offers many examples of God intervening to protect his people
      • "The day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore" - Exodus 14:30
      • Yet, within the same scriptures they speak of peace and non-violence
        • Jesus said -
          • 'Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword' - Matthew 26:52
    • This is the problem facing religious believers
      • Should they fight in a war or not?
        • Jesus told his followers not to fight or resist anger.
          • Instead Jesus taught about the importance of righteousness and peace  and to love thy enemies
            • "Do not resist one who is evil. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also...'' Matthew 5:39
