    • An intranet is a communication system that is restricted and internal to a company or organisation
      • Usually over a LAN or a Virtual Private Network
        • provides organisation services that are only accessible by authorized users
          • Uses internet protocol (IP) includes acces to web pages, email and collaborative working
    • The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the IP. Provides access to information and resources from any connected computer anywhere in the world
      • Includes access to libraries, academic works, email, chatting, online purchasing. Purpose is to link computers and information together
    • An Extranet is a private network that is built on to of, ans uses the internet
      • It is used to access a company or organisation's intranet
