  • Individuals at most risk of abuse
    • Have learning disability
      • May not know or understand their rights or may want to please others.
    • Have dementia
      • May not recognise that abuse is happening. Difficulty remembering and communicating issues with others.
    • Lack mental capacity
      • May not be able to tell others what has happened. May have to depend on others to make decisions for them.
    • Have physical disabilities
      • May have to depend on others. May feel powerless to prevent abuse from happening
    • Have sensory impairment
      • Limited experience of personal relationships and may depend on others to meet their care needs and less likely to report abuse.
    • Looked after children
      • May have had poor life experiences, may move to different settings and are unlikely to form trusting relationships.
