  • ICT- Data Capture
    • Data capture is collecting data. A data capture form is  a form made to collect specific data.
    • Automated data capture
      • It is more reliable to use a machine to enter data than doing it manually. When a machine inputs data it is called automated data capture.
      • Examples
        • Chip and Pin
          • Smart card is read by machine to identify card,
        • Bar codes
          • Used to identify many items such as supermarket goods.
        • OMR (Optical Mark Recognition)
          • Used for lottery ticket entry and examination answer sheets.
        • Magnetic stripe cads
          • Used on bank and credit cards as well as on train and parking tickets.
        • Voice recognition
          • still in its early stages because of difficulty with accents and data input speeds. Yet there are automated telephone systems that can respond to a limited range of voice inputs.
        • RFID tags
          • Radio Frequency Identification  - used to identify items in shops and are also used on electronic travel tickets such as the London Oyster Card.
    • Manual data capture
      • Paper forms
        • Use of tick boxes, character space boxes and other helpful features to ensure information is right for processing.
          • Online forms
            • Online forms are used on websites to collect things like customer data.
            • Use of drop-down boxes to help get the right information.
