- 1948 Desegregation in army
- gained political support from Eisenhower and Truman
- achieved legal victories
- organisations had been set up to help gain civil rights eg. MIA and SCLC
- their marches had been well supports by white Americans and this helped gain more presidential support from JFK and LBJ
- CIVIL RIGHTS ACT ended segregation and discrimination
- VOTING RIGHTS ACT allowed black Americans vote leading to more black people being elected
- HOWEVER, THERE WERE STILL LOTS OF RIOTS, MLK GOT ASSASINATED AND MANYSTILL LIVED IN POVERTY
