  • HOW FAR HAD LIFE FOR BLACK AMERICANS CHANGED BY THE 1970S?
    • 1948 Desegregation in army
    • gained political support from Eisenhower and Truman
    • achieved legal victories
    • organisations had been set up to help gain civil rights eg. MIA and SCLC
    • their marches had been well supports by white Americans and this helped gain more presidential support from JFK and LBJ
    • CIVIL RIGHTS ACT ended segregation and discrimination
    • VOTING RIGHTS ACT allowed black  Americans vote leading to more black people being elected
    • HOWEVER, THERE WERE STILL LOTS OF RIOTS, MLK GOT ASSASINATED AND MANYSTILL LIVED IN POVERTY
