        • Archbishop Cramner granted divorce and henry broke from ROme
    • Historians argue over motives but agree Cromwell was key

    • Henry dissolved monasteries and confiscated wealth. Historians argue over motive
      • some historians say they were lazy and corrupt and people fed up with them.
      • Some argue just wanted to rid papal power and steal wealth. Poor left uncared for.4,000revolted in North.
    • Whatever his motives, historian do agree that there were mixed messages
      • Passed Act of 6 Articles reinforcing Catholic principles
      • Supportive of Thomas Cramner who had P leanings and henry published English bible
      • CONC: Whatever the reasons, Henry paved the way for the rise of P in Eng and the religious roller-coaster of the following century.
