- Henry Tudor defeated Yorkist king Richard III in August 1485
- Unlikely to win
- He only had 5k men compared to Richard's 10k, he had never led troops into battle and nobody knew who he was
- Richard had a stronger army and more experience in battle
- Richard's forces had the better position

- Thomas and William Stanley caught Richard off guard and killed him
- William Stanley after not being initially involved, supported Henry with 3k men
