- Heart Rate and Physical Activity
- Working Heart Rate
- The amount of times the heart beats per minute whilst the body is working
- Resting Heart Rate
- The amount of times the heart beats per minute when the body is at rest
- Recovery (Heart) Rate
- The amount of time it takes for the body to go from working heart rate to resting heart rate
- Maximum Heart Rate
- Calculated as 220-age
- Target Zones
- The range within which an individual needs to work in for aerobic training (60-80% of MHR)
- Training Thresholds
- The boundaries of the target zones
- Aerobic Respiration
- Exercise in which the heart can supply all the oxygen needed to muscles
- Anaerobic Respiration
- Exercise in which the body cannot supply all the oxygen needed to muscles.
- Usually when exercise is in short, fast bursts. Produces lactic acid.
- Applied to Methods of Training
- Interval
- Heart rate decreases and increases between intervals.
- Continuous
- Heart rate increases, but then remains constant.
- Circuit
- Fast increase and decrease of heart rate between stations.
- Interval
- Working Heart Rate
