- Coronary heart disease is when the coronary arteries get blocked by layers of fatty material building up and becomes narrow making blood flow more difficult and this can result in a heart attack
- Stents are a way of lowering the risk of a heat attack
- Advantage: They are effective for a long time and the recovery time from surgery is really quick
- Disadvantage: Risk of infection from surgery and developing a blood clot
- Statins reduce cholesterol in the blood
- Too much of a certain lipid is bad for the body and causes health problems which leads to coronary heart disease.
- Slows down fatty deposits forming
- Advantages: Reduces risks of strokes, increases good cholesterol and may help prevent other diseases
- Disadvantages: Statins are long term and someone may forget to take them, they can cause negative side effects like head ache, serious kidney failure
