  • Hartheim Castle
    • Became an euthanasia centre during the Nazi period
    • Before, it was the home of Austrian Prince and in 1898 it became a home for physically and mentally impaired children
    • The Nazis installed a huge gas chamber on its ground floor and murdered thousands of men, women and children
    • Operation T-4 was an official government euthanasia programme which allowed doctors, nurses and midwives to kill physically and mentally disabled children through a lethal injection or starvation
    • The programme was extended to adults and in all 200,000 lives were claimed
    • The operation started because the physically and mentally disabled didn't fit into the master race  so Hitler decided to take his sterilisation programme further
