- Hardware and Communication
- Processor
- at the heart of every computer is the CPU.
- it refers to that part of the processor which processes the data and instruction
- ALU
- performs the calculations on the data
- Control Unit
- controls all operations inside the computer
- Memory
- Register is a place where the single item of data can be store
- RAM
- used to temporarily store programs and data
- memory consists of sotre locations which are identified by addresses.
- data is moved by an address bus
- ALU
- it refers to that part of the processor which processes the data and instruction
- all computers have at least one input device, and at least one output device
- at the heart of every computer is the CPU.
- Bits,Bytes and Words
- 8 bits = 1 byte
- bit is a binary digit ( 1 or 0 )
- word is the number of bits that the CPU can handle at anytime ( 16,32,64,128)
- Networks
- disadvantages
- 1/ viruses can be spread to all on network
- 2/ hackers may access computers on the network
- 3/ network failure means nobody can use the computer
- networks may be slower using a standalone computer
- 5/ cableing may be expensive to install
- advantages
- 1/ hardware can be shared
- 2/software can be shared
- 3/ data can be shared
- 4/computer may communicare between each other
- disadvantages
