- In town, Offred and Oflgen wait in line at the shops
- We learn the name of the new society “ The republic of Gilead”
- Offred talks about the contrast in the time before where women had no protection, whereas now nobody harasses or harms the women in any way

- On their way home from the walk, they notice Japanese tourists who ask for a photo of them, they shake their head no
