  • Halogens
    • as you go down group 7 they become less reactive, higher melting point and higher boiling point
    • they are all non-metals with coloured vapours: flourine yellow gas at room tempreture, chlorine green gas at room tempreture, bromine orange liquid at room tempreture, iodine is a dark grey crystalline solid at room tempreture or a purple vapour
    • they react with alkali metals to form salts called metal haildes
    • they react with iron to form coloured solids called iron halides
    • displacement reaction is where a more reactive element pushes out a less reactive element from a compound
