    • Physical State at Room Temperature
      • Chlorine
        • Gas
      • Bromine
        • Liquid
      • Iodine
        • Solid
    • Colour
      • Bromine
        • Red-brown
          • Readily evaporates to form a brown gas
      • Chlorine
        • Pale green
      • Iodine
        • Black
          • Sublimes when heated to form a purple gas
    • Reactions with Iron
      • Bromine
        • Hot iron wool glows less brightly when bromine vapour is passed over it.
        • Brown smoke & brown solid are formed.
        • Iron + bromine --> iron(III) bromide
      • Chlorine
        • Hot iron wool glows brightly whne chlorine passes over it.
        • Brown smoke & brown solid are formed.
        • Iron + chlorine --> iron(III) chloride
      • Iodine
        • Hot iron wool glows even less brightly when iodine vapour is passed over it.
        • Brown smoke & brown solid are formed.
        • Iron + iodine --> iron(III) iodide
    • Reactions with Hydrogen
      • Bromine
        • Mild explosion if exposed to a flame.
        • Hydrogen + bromine --> hydrogen bromide
        • H2 + Br2 --> 2HBr
      • Chlorine
        • Violent explosion if exposed to a flame or to UV radiation (sunlight).
        • Hydrogen + chlorine --> hydrogen chloride
        • H2 + Cl2 --> 2HCl
      • Iodine
        • Partial reaction if heated.
        • Hydrogen + iodine --> hydrogen iodide
        • H2 + I2 --> 2Hl
  • Hydrogen + chlorine --> hydrogen chloride
