- Group 1 alkali metals
- have one electron in the outer shell
- they are very reactive as they are cut it is shiny at first but very quickly reacts with oxygen and tarnishes
- more reactive as you go down the group
- they have a higher density, low boiling point and low melting point
- when they react with cold water they produce hydrogen gas
- the metal will fizz in the water and make a pop sound this makes a alkaline solution
- when they react with chlorine they produce salts. it produces a colorless crystalline salts
