  • Group 1 alkali metals
    • have one electron in the outer shell
    • they are very reactive as they are cut it is shiny at first but very quickly reacts with oxygen and tarnishes
    • more reactive as you go down the group
    • they have a higher density, low boiling point and low melting point
    • when they react with cold water they produce hydrogen gas
      • the metal will fizz in the water and make a pop sound this makes a alkaline solution
    • when they react with chlorine they produce salts. it produces a colorless crystalline salts
