- Pathos - An effect where the writer creates a sense of pity for the protagonist.
- Empathy- When you pity a character as you have been in a similar situation yourself.
- Sympathy- is slightly different as they cant fully pity a charecter as they cant fully undertand what they are going through.
- Catastrophe- an event causing great and usually sudden damage or suffering; a disaster.
- Catharsis -a Greek word and it means cleansing. In literature it is used for the cleansing of emotions of the characters.
- Hubris- extreme pride and arrogance shown by a character that ultimately brings about his downfall.
- Hamartia is a personal error in a protagonist's personality that brings about histragic downfall in a tragedy.
- Peripeteia, the turning point in a drama after which the plot moves steadily to the plays ending.
- Denouement- The plays ending
