          • God 'adopts' Israel, which promises moral + religious obedience - Law given to Moses by God is the 'text' of this, 10 commandments
            • Exodus 19:5-6
        • NT, Jesus tells followers weakening in obeying 10 commandments or teaches others too will be called least in the kingdom of heaven
          • Matthew 5:19
          • Many believe they are bound by the same moral laws - others don't, e.g. situation ethics
        • In Mark's Gospel 12:29, J quotes from preface to 1st commandment in Deuteronomy 6:4 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is One' - Shema prayer
