      • Poverty reduction - worldwide, 1BIL people have escaped poverty since 1990 (majority ASIAN - 500 MIL CHINESE alone). CHINA = new global middle class.
      • Waged work- many earned between $10-$100 a day.
      • Education- High schools in ASIA are envied (30,000 PHD's in 2006).
      • Infrastructure- modern motorways, high speed railways etc.
    • Costs
      • Environmental decline - (TOGO has lost 60% of its forestland) And Beijing suffering major air pollution, above that WHO safe limits.
      • demand for resources increases, so space is needed and resources are used.
      • loss of recreational spaces due to high-rise infrastructure, and loss to traditional intfrastructure- Hutong's in BEIJING.
      • Mumbai's DHARAVI slums homes millions who are on just £200 a month.
    • Causes
      • Offshoring, outsourcing and new business start-ups in emerging economies.
