- 1- blood is usually obtained from veins at the elbow
- 2- a band is placed around the upper arm
- 3- the band stops the blood from leaving the veins
- making them more pronounced
- 4- the surface of the skin is cleaned
- 5- a hypodermic needle is inserted into the vein
- 6- a syringe is attached to the need and blood is withdrawn
- 7- the blood is transferred to a bottle which is then sealed
- 8- pressure is applied to the puncture wound with cotton wool
- 9- the hypodermic and syringe are placed into the correct waste container
- 10- the blood sample is sent to the laboratory for testing
