  • Giving a Blood Sample // Procedure
    • 1- blood is usually obtained from veins at the elbow
    • 2- a band is placed around the upper arm
    • 3- the band stops the blood from leaving the veins
      • making them more pronounced
    • 4- the surface of the skin is cleaned
    • 5- a hypodermic needle is inserted into the vein
    • 6- a syringe is attached to the need and blood is withdrawn
    • 7- the blood is transferred to a bottle which is then sealed
    • 8- pressure is applied to the puncture wound with cotton wool
    • 9- the hypodermic and syringe are placed into the correct waste container
    • 10- the blood sample is sent to the laboratory for testing
