- Types of Erosion
- HYDRAULIC ACTION - the force of the river against the banks.
- ABRASION - rocks carried along by the river wear down the river bed and banks.
- ATTRITION - rocks being carried by the river smash together and break into smaller, smoother and rounder particles.
- SOLUTION - soluble particles are dissolved into the river.

- SEA WALL - A wall built on the edge of the coastline.
- GROYNES - A wooden barrier built at right angles to the beach.
- ROCK ARMOUR - Large boulders are piled up on the beach.
- SOFT ENGINEERING
- BEACH MANAGEMENT -This replaces beach or cliff material that has been removed by erosion or longshore drift.
- MANAGED RETREAT - Areas of the coast are allowed to erode and flood naturally. Usually this will be areas considered to be of low value

- SPITS - A spit is an extended stretch of beach material that projects out to sea and is joined to the mainland at one end.
- TOMBOLO - A tombolo is a spit connecting an island to the mainland.
- SAND DUNES - Sand dunes are small ridges or hills of sand found at the top of a beach
