- Genetic disorders
- Cystic fibrosis is caused by a recessive allele
- 1) cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder of the cell membranes
- 2) It's caused by a faulty recessive allele of a single gene 'f'
- 3) Because it's recessive, people with only one copy of the allele won't show the symptoms of the disorder
- 4) for a child to have a chance of inheriting the disorder, both parents must be carriers or sufferers
- 5) as the diagram shows, there's a 1 in 4 chance of a child having the disorder if both parents are carriers
- DIAGRAM NEEDED
- Ptolydactyly is caused by a dominant allele
- 1) Polydactyly is a genetic disorder where a baby's born with extra fingers or toes
- 2) it's cause by a faulty dominant allele of a single gene 'D'
- 3) So polydactyly can be inherited if just one parent carriers the faulty allele
- 4) The parent that has the faulty allele will be a sufferer too, since the allele is dominant
- 5) as the diagram shows, there's a 50% chance of a child having the disorder if one parent has the 'D' allele
- DIAGRAM NEEDED
- Cystic fibrosis is caused by a recessive allele
