        • Schools don't future masculine traits such as competitiveness and leadership
      • Coursework is a major cause of gender differences in achievements as it is seen as feminine
        • Coursework should be replaced with final exams and have greater emphasis on outdoor activities
    • Shortage of male primary school teachers
      • Lack of male role models at school is a cause of boys underachievement.
        • Only 14% of primary school teachers are male and 38% of 8-11 years old are not taught by males
        • This is because the culture of primary schools has become feminised being staffed by female teachers who are unable to discipline boys unlike males
    • Globalisation and the decline of men's jobs
      • There has been a decline in heavy industries in which these sectors are mainly employed by men
        • With the decline its also means a decline in employment for men
      • Many boys now believe they have little chance of a proper job, undermining motivation and self- esteems
        • They then give up on trying to get qualifications
    • However
      • the absence of male teacher may not be a factor for boys achievements
        • 2/3 of 7-8 year olds believe the gender of teachers don't matter
      • Read, =  even though only male teacher can discipline boys, studies found it is the type of language used
        • Disciplinarian teachers gain authority through shouting and sarcasm
