- Takes Oxygen out of the lungs

- Takes Carbon Dioxide into the lungs
- Carbon Dioxide- CO2
- The alveoli are adapted to absorb as much gas in the exchange is possible
- Give the lungs a large surface area
- Thin walls (one cell thick)
- A lot of cappillaries
- Exchanged through diffusion
- Some water vapour is also taken from the surface of the alveoli- we see this on cold days when we breathe out
- Takes Oxygen out of the lungs
