      • GLOBALISATION - GIDDENS - Product and action to globalisation which undermines traditional values.
        • Globalisation brings about choice, uncertainty and risk. Fundamentalism can offer rigid and faith based answers.
        • Fundamentalism is 'traditionalists who with to return to the fundamentals of their faith'
        • Cosmopolitanism - a way of thinking that embraces modernity and change.
      • RESPONSE TO POSTMODERNITY - BAUMAN - Postmodern societies bring freedom and choice and fragment religions.
        • Attractive to some but others turn to Fundamentalism to have truth and certainty.

          • 1. Resistant Identity - Defensive reaction and retreat to fundamentalism
          • 2. Project identity - Forward looking and engage with social movements, e.g. Feminism

          • The West - Reaction to change and diversity within society
          • The Third World - Reaction to change being thrust upon a society, e.g. I ran Islamic Revoultion

          • Phase 2 - Supporters of enlightenment ideologies turn to fundamentalism due to globalisation
