  • Free Speech?
    • "Hate Speech"
      • UK laws making certain types of speech criminal .eg. Tommy Robinson etc.
      • women's  rights, LGBT rights and certain faiths were all deviant as "hate speech" 100 years ago.
        • Islamophobia, racism, sexism etc 2018
      • is it "hate speech" actually hateful or does society struggle to tolerate extreme views? when do we cross the line? should we cross the line?
      • silent majority? does speech being labelled "hate speech" cause a silence in extreme voices, only to be exercised in private and not challenged?
        • Threat to democracy? could this mean extreme views are coming to parliament as a result of not being challenged beforehand?
    • do agents of socialisation determine our views? family, media, workplace, education?
    • An entitlement to expression throughout history
      • LGBT views are now socially acceptable
        • this has changed throughout history, what was once acceptable (racism, sexism etc.) is now not, what was once deviant is now socially acceptable (LGBT views, women rights).
    • Political Correctness
      • has shifted a standard of what is and isnt now verbally socially acceptable
      • Intentions were to give minorities a voice, in doing so have we restricted other views in society?
        • Threat to democracy? could this mean extreme views are coming to parliament as a result of not being challenged beforehand?
