    • Victor Frankenstein
      • Protagonist and a narrator of the story.
      • Becomes obsessed with the idea of creating life.
      • Creates the monster but immediately falls into depression and fear.
      • The monster leaves him faces tragedies of dead family members and friends.
      • He was never aware of the events that would follow and in the end tries to destroy his creation.
      • "Curiosity, earnest research to learn the hidden laws of nature."
      • "Learn from me... how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge."

    • The Monster
      • Comes into the world hated and despised by Victor and mankind for his looks.

      • He is sophisticated and persuasive from learning how to speak and read.
      • Unlike Victor he regrets his actions at the end of the book.

    • Robert Walton
      • Main narrator of the story, begins and ends the book in letters.
      • He is an explorer travelling to the north pole with the same desire for glory as Victor.
      • He listens and learns from Victor's foolishness of great ambition.
      • "The tale which I have recorded would be incomplete without this final and wonderful catastrophe."
      • "I cannot describe to you my sensations on the near prospect of my undertaking."
    • Elizabeth Lavenza
      • She is Victor's foster sister who becomes his wife.
      • She is beautiful, caring and loves Victor completely.
      • She has great belief in Justine and shows great bravery at her trial.
    • Justine Moritz
      • Justine is an orphan who grow up in the household, caring for others.
      • She feels responsible when William is murdered by the Monster.
      • The Monster places the locket (from William) around her neck which leads her being tried for his death and eventually hanged.
    • The De Laceys
      • De Lacey is an old, blind man cared for by his son, Felix and daughter, Agatha, with their visitor Safie.
      • Their love and kindness inspires the monster as he learns the language through them teaching Safie.
      • De Lacey is the only character not prejudice to the monster but Felix pre-judges him and attacks him violently in fear of his father's safety.
    • Henry Clerval
      • Victor's best friend who cares for him in his illness.
      • He is kind, generous and loved by all, until he is killed by the Monster.
