    • Proteins
      • biuret test
        • add biuret reagent to solution, mix - lilac/purple = protein present
    • Carbohydrates
      • Starch
        • add iodine in KI solution - blue black colour = starch present
      • Reducing sugars
        • add benedicts solution & heat - orange/red precipiate = reducing sugar present
      • Non-reducing sugars
        • boil with dilute acid (HCl), neutralise with HCO3, test again with benedicts
    • Lipids
      • emulsion test
        • add ethanol to substance, mix, pour ethanol into test tube w/ water - turns milky (forms an EMULSION) = lipids present
