- Flooding works by exposing patients directly to their worst fears.
- 'Throwing them in at the deep end'
- An example is an individual with a fear of flying will be sent up in a light aircraft.
- Fear is a time limited response.
- At first the person is in a state of extreme anxiety or panic.
- But eventually, exhaustion sets in and the anxiety levels begin to decrease.

- Flooding positives: It is more effective than SD due to it being quicker. This also saves the participant money.
