- All the data is organised into one table, which can be viewed by opening one data file
- Can be created using all database programs and most spreadsheet programs
- Relational Databases
- Store the data in separate tables
- All data is linked together by key fields
- Linking tables together means that important information only needs to be stored once - reduces data redundancy
- Quick and easy to update - information only needs to be changed in one table
- Flat file databases
