- Fieldwork
- Suitable question for a geographical enquiry
- A geographical enquiry is a question that you want to investigate by carrying out fieldwork involving the collection of primary data
- What makes a good question?
- you would really like to know the answer to
- is linked to the geography that you have studied
- could be investigated in a particular fieldwork location.
- What makes a good question?
- Factors that need to be considered
- Do they relate to the GCSE spec?
- Will they allow you to collect primary data safely?
- Is the location accessible?
- Is the topic of interest?
- Collecting data
- Primary data is data or info that you collect yourself.
- Secondary data is data that someone else has collected
- Qualitative data is descriptive data you get by observing or asking people's opinions.
- Quantitative data is numerical data you get by counting or measuring.
- Primary data is data or info that you collect yourself.
- Sampling strategies
- Random sampling- randomly choosing sites to collect data
- Systematic sampling- picking sites every _ metres.
- What we picked for our fieldwork. Gave us a good representation of an area and it is easier to do than random sampling.
- Stratified sampling- picking sites by topic.

- Risks
- Physical geography
- Deep water, fast-flowing waters, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces and steep drops.
- These risks can be avoided by taking safety precautions and/or changing the location of the fieldwork.
- Human geography
- traffic, using public transport, falling objects, air pollution, bad weather.

- traffic, using public transport, falling objects, air pollution, bad weather.
- Physical geography
- Data presentation
- Cross-section graph is a useful data presentation technique as it allows us to see how the physical appearance of a river changes between locations.
- A bar graph is a useful data presentation technique as it is easy to compare the average velocity of both locations.
