- Definition:
- Natural environment.
- IV is manipulated by experimenter.
- Participants usually not aware that they are participating.
- Carried out in the everyday life situations.
- Can be observation or experiments.
- Strengths:
- Higher ecological validity than a lab experiment, because field is more likely to reflect real life.
- Less likely to be demand characteristics as participants are unaware of involvement.
- Limitations:
- Hard to control cofounding varibles and so makes it hard to replicate.
- Often time consuming and expensive.
- Ethical issues - Hard to gain informed consent and to debrief participants afterwards.
