  • Field studies:
    • Definition:
      • Natural environment.
      • IV is manipulated by experimenter.
      • Participants usually not aware that they are participating.
      • Carried out in the everyday life situations.
      • Can be observation or experiments.
    • Strengths:
      • Higher ecological validity than a lab experiment, because field is more likely to reflect real life.
      • Less likely to be demand characteristics as participants are unaware of involvement.
    • Limitations:
      • Hard to control cofounding varibles and so makes it hard to replicate.
      • Often time consuming and expensive.
      • Ethical issues - Hard to gain informed consent and to debrief participants afterwards.
