    • liberal feminists
      • aim to bring about gender equality within the existing system
      • Legislation
        • campaigned for changes in law that give women greater freedom, opportunities and choices in terms of family life.
          • Equal Pay Act/ Equal opportunities Act 1970
            • women were given greater equality in the work place. campaigning for childcare provision
              • breakfast and after school clubs

              • enabling women to combine motherhood and work
      • cultural socialisation
        • highlighted inequalities in the family in terms of domestic labour and gendered socialisation
          • challenged the assumption that childcare/housework are women's responsibilities
      • Evaluation
        • successful- women have choices, opportunities and greater equality
          • BUT lack of affordable childcare
            • issue as is lack of equality in the family.
              • conjugal roles and dual burden
    • Radical feminists
      • men are the source of women's oppression.
        • the family and marriage are key institutions in patriarchal society
      • firestone argues that women's biology makes dependant on men (e.g. when pregnant)
      • women are dominated in the family by men - they are expected to provide sexual and domestic services
        • if these are not provided freely, women can be threatened with violence
      • Evaluation
        • many other feminists (e.g. liberals) don't believe patriarchal society society should be overturned.
          • many women find fulfilment in family life
        • BUT
          • have highlighted the existence of domestic violence and campaigned for womens shelters
            • research suggest that lack of domestic/ sexual services does provoke men to attack their partners.
    • Marxist feminists
      • reserve army of labour- women are part of the secondary labour market because of their child care responsibilities.
        • women are therefore exploitated (low pay, no benefits) by the capitalist system due to their subordinate position
          • women provide the next generation of workers
            • they maintain current workforces physical and emotional fitness
              • free housework
            • absorb the frustrations of the male worker who experiences alienation through being exploited by capitalist system
              • Ansley argued that women are 'takers of ****' - they absorb the anger of the male worker
                • (domestic violence at its most extreme)
  • Evaluation
    • Men exploited by capitalism
    • some women enjoy the domestic role
    • look at the workplace - other feminists don't
