- melting of permafrost in the boreal regions releases methane = a GHG and CO2 = a GHG

- melting reveals darker land which absorb more heat from the sun, leads to more warming, leads to melting etc
- albedo effect
- the amount of light reflected by a material = albedo. Ice has albedo of 0.9 and water has albedo of 0.2. More ice means more radiation is reflected means less heating means more ice.
