- Features created by erosion
- Waterfall Formation
- Step 1.
- Layer of hard rock sits on a layer of soft rock
- Step 2.
- The rock gets eroded creating a plunge pool and the water erodes the soft rock
- Step 3.
- The hard rock falls into the plunge pool because of the water up cut
- Step 4.
- The waterfall keeps retreating back
- Step 1.
- Meander Formation
- Meanders are found in the middle course of the river
- 1. The channel becomes much wider and deeper due to erosion and tributries
- 2. Material will be carried in suspension and erode the banks through abrasion
- 3. The river bank will undercut and collapse plus retreat to leave a smaller river cliff.
- 4. The river now erodes sideways into the banks (lateral erosion) to create a meander
- Ox-Bow lake
- Step 1.
- Narrow neck of the meander gradually gets eroded
- Step 2.
- Deposition takes place sealing off the old meander (meander completely cut off)
- Step 3.
- Ox-Bow lake left behind when meander completely cut off
- Step 1.
- Waterfall Formation
