      • some sociologists argue MC parents are child centred - more time
      • children belonging to WC families may suffer poorer life choices
    • LIVING ALONE
      • 1 in 3 households contains only 1 person, compared to 1 in 20 in 1901
      • factors contributing to living alone: socially acceptable, individualisation, change in role of women
    • SEXUAL DIVERSITY
      • civil partnerships introduced in 2005 by New labour
      • gay marriage legal in UK
    • LIFE COURSE/CYCLE
      • life cycle will be constantly changing
      • will always be a diversity of family types at different stages of the life cycle
      • individuals life course may also affect family diversity
      • life course refers to various significant events e.g. marriage, parenthood divorce that individuals experience
    • ADULT KIDS
      • in 2011, 1 in 3 men, 1 in 6 women aged 20-34 were living at home still with their parents - 25% increase since 1996
      • adult kids have finished education & in their working years - finances are why they stay at home
      • also known as 'kippers' - kids in parents pockets
      • those who do leave opt for shared houess
      • transition between youth & adult roles has been called 'kidulthood'
      • relationships formed in shared house is called 'family of choice'
