      • September 1472 the treaty of Chateaugiron was concluded with Brittany
        • Saw England commit to an invasion of either Normandy or Gascony
          • fearful of invasion, Brittany then signed a truce with France but continued to encourage Edward to attack
            • In 1474 Burgundy agreed to go ahead with the invasion - secured by the treaty of London
              • Edward raised a large army and was supported by parliament (promised £100,000)
                • He led his army to Calais in July 1475 only to find Burgundy had let him down
                  • Edward later on did attack but received no foreign help - luckily France was willing to make an agreement with England - which Edward agreed to immediately
                    • shows weakness in England - Edward didn't feel capable enough to win on his own

      • in 1480 Edward concluded a treaty with Burgundy by which he agreed to support them (after the death of Charles the Duke) so long as they pay him 50,000 crowns should France stop paying his pension.

      • Burgundy made a treaty (of Arras) with France where the infant heiress (Margaret) was to marry the French Dauphin
        • edward not involved in these negotiations - he didnt want to lose the marriage planned for his eldest daughter
          • he also lost the french pension which Louis stopped as he no longer had concerns regarding an Anglo-Burgundian alliance

        • 1480 - stirred up by the French, Scotland indulged in some cross-border raiding of England
          • Edward prepared his military but action was delayed as he wanted to continue Englands support for Burgundy
        • 1482 - as revenge, Gloucester led an attack on Scotland with the idea to put the Duke of Albany on the throne
          • Albany defected after capturing Edinburgh and with it James III
            • Gloucester negotiated with the Scots - he retreated from Edinburgh and instead captured Berwick-upon-Tweed
              • significant gain - provided security for north
