      • Personality clashes - tension/ conflict

      • Room condition - comfort / warmth , poor ventilation, too cold
      • Personal appearance - clean, tidy or dirty and ugly
      • Background noise- distracting, hard to hear

      • Language - difficulties if not understood.
        • Accent, dialogue, slang
      • Non verbal Communication - not all gestures are universal - may cause offence
      • Eye contact - respectful but in western culture it is seen as disrespectful
      • Humour - death and religion is joked about in the UK but offensive in other cultures
      • Gender Roles - men and women communicate differently
    • Terminology
      • for example DNR
        • misinterpreted, confusion, misunderstanidng
          • Speeds up communication when needed
      • Colloquialism
    • Stereotyping - negative stereotyping can lead to prejudice and discrimination
      • Labelling - behaviour
        • self fulfilling prophecy
      • A stereotype is fixed, generalised belief about a group of people suggesting they all have the same characteristic.
    • Lack of Resources
      • technology - computers
      • Recording material - paper, pens
      • Equipment- broken, no internet
        • Time- staff training
