    • Ore is bauxite
    • Using electrolysis
      • Aluminium Oxide is dissolved in molten cryolite
        • Brings melting temperature to around 900 degrees
      • Graphite electrodes need constant replacing due to the reaction with oxygen wearing it down
      • Need for a lot of electricity costs a lot - reasonably cheap
      • At the cathode: Al3+ + 3e- -> Al
      • At the anode: 2O2- --> O2 + 4e-
    • Uses
      • reacts with oxygen - aluminium oxide formed to make a protective layer
      • Less dense  - lighter
      • Cans and Aeroplanes
