    • February 1933 - Hitler arranged a new election for March 1933.
      • Hitler now controlled most newspapers and radio stations.
      • He also controlled the police to intimidate voters and beat up opponents.
    • 27th February - The Reichstag burnt down.
      • Hitler had 'evidence' that it was a communist plot.
        • Hitler went to Hindenburg to try to get him to ban the Communist party.
    • 1st March - Hitler persuaded Hindenburg to pass a special protection law/
      • Gave Hitler the power to deal with the 'Communist plot'
    • March 1933- The election
      • Nazis got more votes than ever.
      • Law of protection banned leading Communists from taking part in election campaign
    • 23rd March 1933- Hitler forced Reichstag to pass enabling law
      • Hitler had power to make laws without asking the rest of politicians in Reichstag
      • Hitler didn't have to worry what Hindenburg thought of him
    • 7th April 1933 - Hitler uses new powers
      • Nazis put in charge of local governments, councils and police.
      • Gestapo were formed.
    • 2nd May 1933- Hitler banned all trade unions.
      • Hitler had taken away workers way of complaining about pay and conditions.
    • 14th July 1933- Hitler banned all political parties.
      • "Law against Formation of New parties"
        • Anyone who tried to set up/ run another party would go to prison for 3 years.
        • Germany was a one party state.
    • 30th June 1934- Night of the Long Knives.
      • Hundreds of regional SA arrested by Hitler and taken to prison and shot dead.
    • 2nd August 1934- President Hindenburg dies ages 87.
      • Hitler took over the presidents job.
        • Made army swear an oath of loyalty to him.
        • Hitler became Führer.
