    • 1. nitrates from the fertilisers are leached (leak) into the surrounding rivers and streams.
    • 2. the nitrates causes and increase growth of algae.
    • 3. The death of water plants begin to increase as there is too much competition for light with the algae.
    • 4. There is an increased reproduction of decomposers due to the increased food source (dead plants, algae).
    • 5. There is an increased use of oxygen due to the algae and decomposers respiring.
    • 6. The decreased amount of oxygen in the water leads the the death of water animals and more water plants.
