  • Cells
    • prokaryotic
      • smaller + simpler
        • does not have chloroplasts, mitochondria or a true nucleus
      • 1) single, circular strand of DNA that floats freely in the cytoplasm
      • 2) plasmids
      • 3) cell wall
      • 4) cell membrane
      • 5) cell membrane
    • eukaryotic
      • complex and include all animal + plant cells
        • animal
          • 1) nucleus - contains genetic material that controls activities of the cell
          • 2) mitochondria - most reactions for aerobic respiration take place.
          • 3) cytoplasm - gel like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. contains enzymes that control such reactions.
          • 4) cell membrane - holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
          • 5) ribosomes - these are where the proteins are made in the cell.
        • plant
          • *has extra subcellular structures*
            • 1) rigid cell wall - made of cellulose. supports + strengthens cell.
            • 2) chloroplasts - where photosynthesis occurs. contains chlorophyll which absorbs light needed for photosynthesis
            • 3) permanent vacuole - contains cell sap: a weak solution of sugar + salts.
