- Many minority students do not speak English as a first language so will struggle learning new concepts, and are assumed to lack intelligence so are not pushed to their full potential

- Afro-Carribean communities have high levels of lone parenthood, which can cause financial issues and lead to reduced educational achievement
- Compensatory education - CD
- Policy aiming to reduce the effects of cultural deprivation such as sure start
- CD Ignores other factors that influence achievement and is victim blaming, they are culturally different not deprived
- Material Deprivation
- Ethnic minorities are more likely to face issues such as poor housing and a low income which in turn disrupts educational potential
- Racism in wider society
- Racism can lead to low self esteem and therefore rejection in school
- Teachers may also subconsciously hold a prejudice against minority students so give them lower grades or punish them more leading to a self fulfilling prophecy
