  • Ethical Issues
    • These arise when a conflict exists between the rights of ppts involved & the goals of the research to produce authentic, valid & worthwhile data
    • Informed Consent
      • Involves making ppts aware of the aims of the research, procedures, their rights & what their data will be used for
      • Ppts should then make an informed judgement whether or not to take part
      • From researcher point of view asking for informed consent may make study meaningless due to ppt behaviour not being 'natural. due to knowing aim
    • Deception
      • Means deliberately misleading or withholding info from ppts at any stage of study
      • Ppts who haven't received adequate info when agreed to take part cannot to be said to have given conformed consent
      • There are occasions where deception can be justified if it doesn't cause the ppt any undue distress
    • Protection from Harm
      • Ppts shouldn't be placed at any more risk than they would be in their daily lives & should be protected from physical & psychological harm
      • Includes being made to feel embarrassed, inadequate or being placed under undue stress or pressure
      • Important feature is ppts being reminded that they have the right to withdraw at any point
    • Privacy & Confidentiality
      • Ppts have the right to control info about themselves
      • The rights of privacy
      • Confidentiality refers to our right to have any personal data protected
